[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Organization for the Victory of the People (OVP) says it vehemently condemns what it described as the “executions” of Tucville youths, Edgar Blackman and Sherwin James.
James and Blackman were killed during a police shootout last Wednesday in South Ruimveldt. OVP in a statement on Monday, December 14 said that the “situation on the streets requires urgent, immediate and decisive action.”
“We are being told that Operation Dragnet is successful, but who are the people that the net has been dragging in? Based on our evidence, gathered in various communities, one particular section of the society is being stereotyped and targeted,” the statement noted.
The Party claimed too that from eyewitness accounts, the two Tucville youths slain by the police had surrendered but nevertheless were executed.
“We have seen many years of extra-judicial killings in Guyana, reaching a peak number under Bharrat Jagdeo’s presidency. OVP is calling for an immediate end to the state-sanctioned policy of extra-judicial killings in Guyana.”

The government is being asked to order an immediate halt to extra-judicial killings and “to declare their firm and unanimous commitment to the principle that Black Lives Matter.”

You owe your readership some sort of background into OVP, such as when it was launched, who launched it, what are its mission statement and core objectives and where it is located or can be reached. Who is the primary spokesperson of this group?
It truly is amazing that a virtually unknown political party can command so much media attention and even blogging reaction on a topic that most have read and moved on from based on the background story that implicates the victims as armed robbers who were caught in the act.
Don’t get me wrong, I am against extra-judicial killings, but no one (including OVP) has produced evidence this was a case of extra judicial killings on the same level of what obtained during the Roger Khan era.
And what’s up with the Black Lives Matter injection here? Is OVP saying the deceased young men are Blacks while the victims of their home invasion and robbery or the police officers are non-Blacks?

Reading through all the comments so far it is evident that ALL the bloggers agree with the action by the police. Bandits have been creating terror in the towns and villages across the country but more particularly so in the urban areas. Ii is not worth repeating the same comments by all the other bloggers. Suffice it to mention that bandits have no sympathy for their victims and will beat mercilessly, maim and kill in order to get what they want.
OVP, you are now bringing in RACISM into the scourge that has been going on for far too long. The police are now being more proactive, taking the bandits head on and you are crying foul. A criminal is a criminal regardless of the ethnicity. Where were you when so many have been terrorised, beaten mercilessly, maimed or killed by these bandits? And if you check carefully, these criminals go after any ethnic group but most of their victims so far, have been from the other ethnic section of the population. So, don’t use ”the principle that Black Lives Matter” to foster your racist bigotry. All law abiding lives matter.
If indeed the “alleged” bandits had raised their hands indicating surrender then I believe the police have a responsibility to attempt to apprehend without necessarily killing. I am of the opinion that, given the level and type of crimes that we are experiencing today, the police have a bias toward execution rather than apprehension. We have to place a higher premium on life throughout our entire society – both criminals and policemen need to be reminded that “all lives matter”.
Exactly! If they come from one section of the society, what are they doing at other people yards and homes at that time and armed with guns and hiding in or behind water tank? They don’t live at that address by any means. The police should take it a full step further and RAID the bandits homes and see what they find that is likely STOLEN LOOT.

Why would an honest/innocent man be doing at 3:00 breaking into the home of someone else. Police are never called at the scene of a church service. Police will go after criminality that simple, you’r not part of that criminality don’t be caught there. How about advising the youths to stay away from criminality.

I too used to believe that black youths were being unfairly targeted by our security forces under Jagdeo. But some have made it bad for all. You just check who are committing the most crimes these days, it is those same youths. For the ones who are already criminals let them pay for their crimes. For the younger ones and older ones who have not chosen that path we must work with them to help them avoid the pitfalls. If they fire weapons at the police then the police have a right to defend themselves. Sorry to say but if they have to die let them die. The Police dragnet is doing a Great Job, these bandits were a menace to society. Innocent and hardworking people were been beaten and robbed daily , hardworking people lives matter. How many times criminals serve their time in jail for robbery and within 24 hours of been released from jail they commit the same crime. So many victims are physically and mentally suffering as a result of the beatings or the gun shot wounds they receive by these bandits.
