[www.inewsguyana.com] – There has been a reduction in road deaths for 2015 up to January 26 when compared with the corresponding period of 2014, according to the Guyana Police Force.
A media release from the Force noted that up until Monday, there have been five road fatalities, which is a 50% reduction when compared to ten for the corresponding period last year.
In this regard, the Force says it is continuing with its traffic enforcement efforts focused on traffic education, as it seeks to maintain safety on the country’ s roadways.
The Police Force has reiterated its call on all categories of road users to use the roads responsibly, cognizant of the five Cs- Caution, Courtesy, Consideration, Common Sense and Care.
Meanwhile, during the period January 18 to 24, 2015, a number of cases have been made against motorists for breaching of the traffic laws.
These includes 388 speeding cases, 34 driving under the Influence, 56 Breach of Condition of Road Service Licence, 11 Careless Driving, 6 Dangerous Driving, 3 failing to wear safety helmet, 24 failing to wear seat belt and 8 prohibition of the use of hand held mobile phone.
In addition, 16 persons were charged for the soliciting of passengers (touting).
