Police ‘G’ Division ranks (Essequibo Coast and Islands) have arrested a 29-year-old man after stumbling upon several ganja farms along with two camps in the Onderneeming Backlands of Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
The bust was made at about 16:45h on Friday, when a party of Policemen on foot patrol in the Onderneeming Backlands in search of a wanted man observed a camp with a group of men therein. The ranks approached the men, but came under fire.
The suspects then fled into the nearby bushes, but were pursued by the ranks, during which resident of Onderneeming was apprehended.
The officers also observed that there were two camps with about 15 kilograms of dried cannabis and a quantity of groceries, kitchen utensils, two hammocks, and clothing therein. A bottle containing two live cartridges and five .38 spent shells was also found in one of the camps.
The camps were surrounded by six fields — about 8 1/4 acres — of marijuana plants, approximately 11,700 in total, ranging in height from six inches to seven feet. There was also a nursery with about 700 seedlings therein.
The suspect remains in custody assisting with ongoing investigations
