[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Police Force today (June, 25) received two all Terrain vehicles along with navigation and communication equipment from the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment’s Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) along with the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA).

Commissioner of Police (ag), Seelall Persaud believes this will enhance inter-agency monitoring and enforcement efforts in the various mining districts of the interior to boost its crime fighting strategy.

The donation represents a contribution to eliminate a major challenge facing the Police Force in the mining area because of its terrain.

Communication also poses a difficulty and the satellite phones will help in this regard, the Police Commissioner said.Vehicle 2

Police officers operating in the interior have been trained by officials of the Natural Resources Ministry to be knowledgeable of the legislation relating to the Mining, Forestry and Environmental acts.

Subject Minister, Robert Persaud said this type of heightened security for the mining sector is pivotal to ensure business operators and miners feel more safe and secure to ply their trade so that they can expand their operations.

He is hopeful that there will be more donations to the Force in this regard. [Tracey Khan – Drakes]
