A police constable in under close arrest, while another man is in police custody, after he reportedly discharged a loaded firearm at a popular nightclub at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD) in the wee hours of Friday morning.
Based on reports received, a 17-year-old porter of Soesdyke EBD was at the popular night club in the company of two females when an argument broke out between him and a 28-year-old truck driver of Kuru Kururu Soesdyke/Linden Highway over one of the young ladies.
As a result, the Police Constable stationed at ‘F’ Division Headquarters and of Soesdyke, who was in the company of the truck driver, allegedly pulled out an handgun and discharged a round on the floor of the night club.
This publication was informed that both the truck driver and the police constable left the scene in a hurry in a motorcar.
The Guyana Police Force was then contacted and investigation was launched.
The area was searched and a warhead was found on the floor next to the bar.
In light of this, several persons of the night club were questioned and the police constable and the truck driver were contacted and told of the allegation which they both denied.
A search was subsequently conducted on their person and homes for the firearm but none was found.
The constable was placed under close arrest and escorted to Tactical Services Unit (TSU), while the truck driver was taken to the highway police base where he remains in custody.
The warhead was reportedly lodged at the Timehri Police Station as investigations continue.
