A Police Constable attached to the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) was on Wednesday afternoon arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, for allegedly bashing the face of a woman with a beer bottle at Ekereku Landing,Region-Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

Gradi Hoyte, 26, of Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara, denied the charge which stated that on December 3, 2016, he unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Maxi Duncan with intent to cause actual bodily harm.

Based on reports reaching INews, Duncan had visited the Police Station in the area and was engaged in an argument with the officer after which she left. The parties reportedly met hereafter at the Ekereku Landing where an argument once more ensued. Hoyte allegedly hit the woman to the left side of her face with a beer bottle during the altercation.

Prosecutor Arvin Moore, in a no-objection motion to bail, told the court that the injuries received were not life-threatening, contending that the VC suffered mere ‘black and blue’ marks to the skin, with no bleeding or fractures.

The Constable was granted G$75,000 bail with the condition that he stays 50 feet from the VC, and was also placed on a bond to maintain good behaviour pending the outcome of the trial, which continues on June 20, 2017 at the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
