[www.inewsguyana.com] – Police on Tuesday afternoon (June 10), conducted a raid in the Stabroek Market area, Georgetown, during which some 631 pornographic discs were seized and five men and two women who were engaged in selling the discs were arrested.
Charges are expected to be made shortly. The sale of pornographic material, particularly to minors is illegal in Guyana.
This comes amid renewed calls for a crackdown on the open sale of pornographic DVDs on Georgetown streets. Police a few years ago had announced a public campaign against the sale of such material but enforcement was short lived.
Recently, concerns were mounted in the media by citizens lamenting that vendors have been openly displaying their DVDs and some would even approach shoppers with the goods.
Persons are being urged to report the sale of pornography to the Police if they have knowledge of such.
