Luck was not on the side of a 33-year-old woman of Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on March 25, 2017 when she was allegedly caught red-handed and apprehended by Police after uttering some US$1300 at a local clothing store.
It is alleged that Samantha De Souza uttered the fake United States dollars to Abi Manu in exchange for items purchased at the store in Georgetown. During her court appearance before City Magistrate Fabayo Azore, she denied the charge and was released on $75,000 bail.
The prosecution, in objecting to bail, informed the court that the US notes were discovered to be fake, and added that if released, De Souza was free to roam the streets of Georgetown pending trial. However, the prosecution’s submission was denied.
The matter is set to continue on April 19.
