Plaisance residents plan massive protest against “government’s injustice”

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Residents of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, have indicated their intention to commence protest action against what they deemed as Government’s imposition ‎against them.

The protest is expected to take place tomorrow, Sunday September 28. Elections Manager for the ECD for A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), Shawn Austin, told iNews that government is working with a number of popular construction companies ‎to build “some type of infrastructure unknowing to the residents.”

He explained that the residents were removed from the plot of land where construction is ongoing “so that Government can give to its friends.”

“The Plaisance people are very annoyed about it and as such we have decided that come Sunday morning beginning at 5 O’ clock, all the villagers will go and take up their place on that, because we believe that we have a right to that land,” Austin said.

Austin is of the view that Minister of Local Government, Norman Whittaker should have engaged the residents of the community in an effort to have the specific area regularized and developed.

“They started by taking over the burial ground, forget about the dead and everything, they build Buddy’s Auto Sales, Qualfon and all the others are there…so now Plaisance people are left with very few burial space.”

He made it clear that the residents will stand up against Government’s injustice against them. Austin noted that government had attempted to take away the community center from the residents to house towers they were putting up for the E-Governance project.
