[www.inewsguyana.com] – The “Pick-It-Up” Campaign is being taken to the mining town of Linden and Uitvlugt Beach, West Coast Demerara on September 28th and 29th, 2013 respectively.This event is being coordinated by The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment through the Environmental Protection Agency.
According to a Release from the Environment Ministry, the Linden cleanup will target the Mackenzie and Wismar Markets along the Demerara River front commencing at 6:30hrs.Several Linden Organizations including the Youth Vision, Central Mackenzie Scout Group, Young and Thoughtful Youth Club and the President’s Youth Award have pledged their commitment to supporting the Ministry’s efforts of providing a clean and healthy environment.
Meanwhile, the coastal clean-up exercise will target the Uitvlugt beach on September 29th commencing at 6:30hrs, from the beach area in line with the Utivlugt Bridge. This is a collaborative effort with support from the Regional Administration, Uitvlugt residents, Uitvlugt Development Group, President’s Youth Award and Pathfinders Club of the Seventh Day Adventist Church . Volunteers from Georgetown have also committed their participation to Uitvlugt’s coastal cleanup.
The volunteers lend support to the Ministry’s efforts in providing a cleaner and healthier environment for all Guyanese and re-enforces the Ministry’s efforts to gather more data relating to coastal debris. This data will be analyzed and used to support future interventions and studies directed at protecting and sustaining Guyana’s coastal and river-rain areas.
