The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the alleged shooting to death of Reona Payne by her reputed husband and ex-Captain of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 36-year-old Orwain Sandy, commenced today (Wednesday), before Principal Magistrate, Judy Latchman.
The PI began with the testimony of Police Constable, Kevin Noel attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Crime lab, who processed the scene of the shooting via photographs.
Sandy allegedly murdered Payne at First Street Alexander on March 31 2018 by shooting her 14 times with his service pistol following an argument over infidelity.
The man then turned himself in to Police and reported what had occurred.
When ranks reported to the scene of the crime, the body of Payne, a mother of three children, was found lying on the roadway.
The accused was later charged for the offence before Magistrate Judy Latchman. However following a request by his Attorney, James Bond, he was sent to be mentally evaluated by Dr. Bhiro Harry who later declared that he was fit to stand trial for the murder.
The PI is expected to continue on July 4 2018.
