[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) in collaboration with Pepsi will host the final boxing event of the year on Sunday, December 14 at the Andrew ‘Six Heads’ Lewis Gym.
The tournament which will aim to develop the youngsters is expected to attract at least seven gyms and 30 boxers to one day event.
At the launching today, Friday December 12, President of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle noted that importance of the tournament.
“As you know the under-16 category is the nursery of our boxing and we must pay attention to them and we want to give our heartfelt thanks to DDL for their support,” Ninvalle stated.
Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) Larry Wills is cognizant of the role such a tournament plays in the development of the boxers.
“We are proud to be a part of this tournament and we found that over the years the tournament has been successful in the development of the boxers and we will continue to give them the opportunities to develop in to better boxers and hopefully they grow into good senior boxer and even international boxers from the junior stage,” Wills highlighted.
Meanwhile, Ninvalle also revealed that the GBA will be hoping to spread such tournaments to the interior region as Mahdia has become the latest affiliate of the association.
In addition, Ninvalle highlighted that Suriname because of the Pepsi tournament is hoping to collaborate with GBA in the future on junior development tournaments. The tournament is staled to begin at 13:00h.
