[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Pepsi Hikers retuned to former glory by winning the men’s division when the finals of the Diamond Mineral Water International Indoor Hockey Festival concluded on Sunday evening at the National Gymnasium.
The Hikers in a high paced game with destroy Old Fort 5-0 to win their sixth title of the tournament, scoring three goals in the first half and two in the second.
Jamarj Assanah who was the eventual MVP of the tournament would score the game’s opening goal while pacing his team to the win with fast paced attacks on Old Fort’s defence.
Meanwhile the GCC Tigers trashed GCC Spice 9-0 in a lopsided final.
The one-sided affair saw a hat-trick of goals from Captain Sonia Jardine who led her team throughout the competition with her entertaining stick skills and clinical finishing. Striker Kerensa Fernandes and defender Trisha Woodroffe both scored doubles, while promising juniors Ashley DeGroot and Dacia Woodroffe rounded out the score sheet with one each.
In the veteran’s category, the Hickers retained their Carib Veterans trophy for the third straight year with a 4-2 victory over Old Fort.
