A South Ruimveldt pensioner has died following a two-vehicle collision along Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown on Saturday. The accident reportedly occurred at about 17:00h.
The dead man has been identified as 76-year-old Trem Williams of Lot 77 Wren Avenue, South Ruimveldt. According to information received, the now dead man was driving along Aubrey Barker Road when a route 41 minibus slammed into the car after the driver attempted to avoid hitting another car.
INews understands that the minibus was driving at a fast rate at the time of the accident. The passengers in the minibus escaped unharmed.
From reports received, the now dead man was pinned and had to be removed from the wrecked car by members of the Guyana Fire Service who were summoned to the scene. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
INews understands that a second person who was travelling with Williams at the time of the accident was also injured.
The Police have since arrested the driver of the minibus as they continue their investigations.
