[www.inewsguyana.com] – Zahir Mohamed of Unity, East Coast Demerara was arrested on Sunday, June 21, moments after he allegedly gagged, bound and robbed a female pensioner of $5000. The woman is said to be a shop keeper in the same village.
According to information reaching iNews, the man showed up at the shop to purchase cigarettes and as the woman turned her back to get the item, the suspect forced his way into the shop, tied up the woman, forced cloth into her mouth and took away the money before fleeing the scene.
The woman however managed to raise an alarm after which the police responded and apprehended the suspect. iNews understands that the police are looking to question the man in relation to an incident which took place late last month in the same community in which another shopkeeper, who was also a pensioner, was found murdered in her home.
As of recent, there has been an increase in cases where pensioners are attacked and in some instances, killed in their homes.
So sad!
