A pensioner was today granted bail in the sum of $20,000 when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.
Sixty – Six – year old Mohamed Safeek of Seaforth Street Campbellville, Georgetown pleaded guilty to the offence which he committed against Lalbahadur Singh.
According to the accused, the complainant rushed to him claiming that he owed him money and in the process he fell and hit his head.
A not guilty plea was entered for the accused by the Magistrate based on his explanation. When asked about the assault; the police prosecutor disclosed that the Virtual Complainant sustained severe abrasions to his upper limb that was inflicted by the accused.
Safeek was first placed on $30,000 bail. However, he told the court that he is a pensioner and will need some time to accumulate that amount of money. In light of this the magistrate had his bail reduced to $20,000 and the matter was adjourned until July 03.
