Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred about 06:30h on Wednesday at the Felicity Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD) that resulted in the death of pedestrian Reaz Nazir, 37, of Felicity Railway Embankment, ECD.
Nazir was reportedly hit by motorcar PVV7987 driven by a 50-year-old resident of Cummings Lodge, Greater Georgetown.
According to information from the police, their enquiries disclosed that the vehicle was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of the road within the prescribed speed limit, when it was alleged by the driver that the pedestrian who was standing on the northern parapet suddenly ran south into the path of the vehicle.
He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he received medical attention and was admitted but succumbed about 16:20h.
The driver, who passed a breathalyzer test, is in custody and assisting with the investigation.
An autopsy is expected to be completed on Nazir by Friday.
