A man who is yet to be identified is now dead after he was struck down by a truck at Agricola, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
According to a police press release, the accident occurred on Monday at around 07:10hrs along the Agricola Public Road, EBD.
Motor lorry GPP 8215 was proceeding north along the western drive lane of the eastern carriageway (at that time, the third lane for the north bound traffic was activated).
The driver of the truck told investigators that he observed the pedestrian standing on the median, facing east, at the center of the two carriageway.
The pedestrian, who was attempting to cross the road, was looking south and walked into the path of the truck, which was coming from the north.
As a result, the center portion of the lorry collided with the pedestrian who fell on to the roadway, and and the wheels of the vehicle ran over both of the man’s legs.
He was subsequently picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Emergency Unit, where he was being treated for head injuries, internal bleeding and broken feet.
However, he succumbed to his injuries at around 07:30hrs on Tuesday.
The driver of the motor lorry, a 33-year-old man, was placed in police custody and is assisting with the investigation.
