A 43-year-old pedestrian was on Wednesday evening struck down on the Prospect, East Bank Demerara public road and subsequently succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Dead is Franklyn Dover of Lot “L” First Street, Bartica.
Based on information received, the accident occurred at about 20:00h.
According to the police, the driver of mini-bus BVV2848, said he was proceeding south along the western lane of the eastern carriageway of the aforementioned road, when Franklyn reportedly ran across the public road from west to east, resulting in him being struck by the front right side of the bus .
As a result of the impact, the pedestrian -who fell onto the roadway- received injuries about his head and body.
He was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Center in an unconscious state before being transferred to the GPHC where he died while receiving medical attention.
A breathalyzer test was administered to the 33-year-old driver of the Route 42 Zone minibus and no alcohol was detected in his system.
Nevertheless, he remains in police custody, assisting with investigations.
Franklyn’s body has since been transported to the Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a postmortem examination.
Investigations are continuing.
