[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Pastor was among three Brazilian nationals who appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday March 31 before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry charged with possession of some 3,300 grams of marijuana.
Fifty-two-year-old Pastor Maubey Desouza, Twenty-eight-year-old mason Lenardo Marceo and Twenty-one-year-old Domestic worker Jessica Perriera all pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The charge alleged that on Friday, March 27 at Multi complex, Lethem, they had in their possession 3,300 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Defence Counsel Latchmi Rahamat, told the court that her clients came from Brazil to Lethem to shop. While shopping the vehicle was left unlocked and when they returned neither of them notice anything amiss.
The lawyer said her clients left for Brazil and while on their way, they were stopped by police officers, who then conducted a search on the vehicle and made the discovery.
As a result of the search ranks discovered four black plastic bags containing leaves, seeds and stems.
Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that further search revealed a purse with a quantity of Brazilian currency.
The three Brazilians were remanded to prison and the matter was transferred to Lethem Court, for June 1.
