A security guard attached to the Hopkinson Security Service was slapped with a manslaughter charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts earlier today (Tuesday).
Fifty-five year old, Christopher Ambrose of 1324 Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD) was made to stand before the Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan and was not allowed to plead to the indictable offense.
It is being alleged that, he, on October 24 2017 at Seven Hour, Butterfly Backdam, Cuyuni, unlawfully killed Raimar Batista DeSouza.
The accused was represented by Attorney-at-Law, Latchmie Rahamat who pleaded his case explaining to the Chief Magistrate that her client was defending himself from the deceased who was at the time attempting to kill him.
She noted that if the defendant did not defend himself, he could have been killed by DeSouza. She asked that bail be grnated to her client on these grounds.
Police Prosecutor, Arvin Moore however had no bail objections but requested that the accused lodge his travel documents at the Bartica Police Station.
Magistrate McLennan granted bail to the accused in the sum of $500,000 and asked that he report to the Bartica Police Station every Friday pending the outcome of the matter.
Ambrose is scheduled to make his next appearance on November 16 2017 at the Bartica Magistrate Court.
