[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Trinity Grid Holding Pacesetters were able hold off the Pepsi Sonics to pick up a 75-71 win as well as the first division title of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) Trifecta basketball tournament which concluded on Sunday, August 31 at the Burnham Hard Court.
With Pacesetters up by double digits heading into the final quarter, Pepsi Sonics produces a brilliant opening four minutes to erase the lead with Jason Squires hitting a couple of daggers to start a 15-0 run for the Sonics.
The run by the Sonics gave them a 65-61 lead over the Pacesetters before Burnett drove to the rim and scored at point blank range that seemed to lift spirit of the team.
Burnett’s aggressive moves to rim ignited a run for Pacesetters that saw them regain a two point lead in the final minute before adding a another three with just 11 second to go to secure the win.
Burnett scored a team high 24 points to lead the way while Travis Williams had 21 points as well. Jocyln Crawford played aggressive in the paint for 12 points to contribute to the win.
Jason Squires who was named the eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament scored a game high 28 points in the loss.
The win for the Pacesetters was the first by any first division team in the last year after a dominating year by the Ravens basketball club.
