[www.inewsguyana.com] – A United Kingdom-based Guyanese woman has been charged with attempting to smuggle a quantity of cocaine, hidden in bottles of rum, via the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
Forty – three – year old Vanessa Moore, who resides in London but who stayed at Murphy Street, Good Intent, West Bank Demerara while in Guyana, was remanded to prison by Magistrate Judy Latchman.
The court heard that on November 03, at CJIA, Timehri, Moore had in her possession 2.9 kilogrammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. She was not represented by legal counsel and pleaded not guilty to the offense.
According to the allegations, on the day in question, the accused was an outgoing passenger on a Caribbean Airlines flight destined for Port-of-Spain, en route to London.
Ranks at the airport conducted a search on the bag of the accused and found a 12 – year – old and a 15 – year – old Eldorado Rum bottles with the seals broken. A further search revealed cocaine inside the bottles.
Bail was refused and she is scheduled to make her next court appearance on November 11.
