[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Karate College will this weekend hold a general grading exercise for their students.
Speaking to this online news service, Senior Instructor of the college, Sensei Jeffrey Wong said that there are more than eight students seeking to get into the black belt category.
“We have around about 70-80 students going up for examination from 10th kyū to1st dan; we have in among the students 10 of the juniors going from first kyū to black belt showdan”, according to the Sensei
He adumbrated that the students have been in preparation for the event for a number of months and they are keen on a 100 percent pass rate.
“Those who are going for showdan (black belt) have been training for the last four months and I think they are ready”, Wong said.
The grading will be conducted by Sensei Woon-A-Tai, who arrived in the country recently.
The senior instructor indicated that master frank Woon-A-Tai, who created and heads the International Karate Daiagaku [University], has been helping with the development of the athletes ahead of their training.
“The Sensei (Woon-A-Tai) came in a week ago and he is doing the final touching up with them (athletes) and running through the techniques”, the Sensei noted. The grading is set to begin at 17:00 at the Maltenoes sports club.
