[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Police Force has recorded a total of 154 murders at the end of December 2013 in comparison to 139 murders for the same period in 2012, an 11% increase.
Of the 154 murders, 61 were of the disorderly type, 24 were committed during armed robberies, 4 were execution type, and 24 were domestic related, while the other 41 are so far undetermined.
According to the police, an overall increase of 7% in serious crimes has been recorded at the end of December 2013 in comparison to the same period in 2012.
The total number of reports of serious crimes made between January 01 and December 31, 2013 was 4,007 compared to 3,760 for the same period in 2012. Some of the offences monitored are murder, robbery under arms, robbery with violence, larceny from the person, break and enter and larceny, burglary, rape and kidnapping.
At the end of 2013, robbery under arms overall has increased by 7%, with 1,132 reports compared to 1,058 for the same period in 2012. The statistics indicate an increase of 14% in the number of armed robberies involving the use of firearms; and a 4% decrease in armed robberies where instruments other than firearms were used by the perpetrators.
