A 23-year-old hairdresser was on Wednesday last taken into police custody following the discovery of a quantity of cannabis at the Bartica Stelling.
According to police information, ranks attached to the Bartica Police Station went to the Bartica Stelling at about 11:30hrs on the day in question and conducted a search on a passenger boat.
It was there that a black plastic bag, with three scotch-taped parcels, was discovered. Upon inspection, the ranks found that the bag contained in excess of 1235 grams of marijuana.
The female who is presently in custody was a passenger in the boat at the time of the search.
She reportedly resides at Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown.
Investigations are continuing.
