Ninth Dan Shuseki Shihan Frank Woon-A-Tai, Founder of the International Karate Daigaku, on Sunday graded over 100 karatekas of Association do Shotakan Karate- Guyana (ASK-Guyana) at the YMCA building, Thomas Lands.
He was assisted by Sixth Dan Sensei Amir Khouri and recently promoted Fourth Dan Sensei Roger Peroune.
ASK- Guyana Dojos from Linden, New Amsterdam, Albion, Blairmont, Land of Canaan, West Bank Demerara and Georgetown were graded by Shuseki Shihan, Woon-A-Tai.
Among the top movers were Hazrat Ali of Albion, who is a now a Fifth Dan; Fourth Dan Roger Peroune (YMCA); Second Dan Kelly-Ann Fortune, Minaskhi Pooran, Nicole Hohenkirk and Tabita Goolsarran, all of YMCA; and First Dan Jonathon Ramsuchit (New Amsterdam), Shakeem Walcott (YMCA), Chelcia Benjamin (Land of Canaan), Rebecca Wesley (Land of Canaan), Ashab Bacchus (Albion), Rameez Ramlill (YMCA) and Oneika Ramsuchit (New Amsterdam).
Among the outstanding Kyu grade promotions were (10 Kyu to 8 Kyu) Pratush Deokinandan, Romell Ograsein, Vinod Deonarine, Arya Ramessar, Rapheal Ograsein, Navindra Deonarine, Maria Baksh, Joel Dazzell, Stephon Fraser, Joel Kellman and Shine Haynes; (8 Kyu to 6 Kyu) Mustapha Ally, Aolione Griffith, Christopher Ramkissoon, Michael Webster and Kristine Ramkissoon; (7 Kyu to 5 Kyu) Amy Koosial and Shamariel Barker; (5 Kyu To 3 Kyu) Mortimer Giddings and Javed Baksh; and (4 Kyu to 2 Kyu) Daqon Garnett, Sean Wesley, Abdoul Diallo and Asaad Abdool.
While Rebecca Wesley, Chelcia Benjamin, Rameez Ramlill and Ashab Bacchus were promoted to 2 Kyu to 1 Kyu, 10 students were promoted to white/yellow belt; 15 were elevated to yellow; 29 to orange; nine to green; six to blue; seven to purple; 10 to brown (3 Kyu); 13 to brown (2 Kyu); four to brown (1 Kyu); and 13 to Dan (Black Belt).
