[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Police Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has already commenced its investigations into the circumstances surrounding and leading up to the shooting of 15 – year – old Alex Griffith by a Police Officer.
During a telephone interview with iNews (www.inewsguyana.com), Head of the OPR, Heeralall Mackenlall confirmed that his department received instructions for an investigation into the mater.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Balram Persaud who is performing the duties of Commissioner of Police also confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
Persaud made it clear that at the moment, persons are not being investigated for the incident but rather the incident itself is being investigated.
He explained that after the investigation into the incident is completed, the findings will then determine who needs to be investigated and for what.
iNews (www.inewsguyana.com) was informed that there were five ranks and an officer on the patrol when the teenager was shot in his mouth by the Cadet Officer. Statements have already been taken in relation to the mater.
On Wednesday night (April 30), the teen was shot by the Officer, whose sister was robbed by two men earlier. That police rank is presently on close arrest. On Thursday, ‘A’ Division Commander Clifton Hicken and Balram Persaud visited the mother of the shot teen and promised that justice would be swift. [Leroy Smith]
