One year jail for man found guilty of assaulting ‘child mother’

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Leslie Charles was sentenced to one year imprisonment for assaulting his child mother. He was found guilty by Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond for assaulting Tamda Dailey, causing her actual bodily harm on January 8 at Waterloo Street, Georgetown.

The complainant was also charged for unlawfully assaulting Charles. They both pleaded not guilty to the charges during their initial appearance in Court.

Police Prosecutor, Jomo Nichols told the Court that around 20:30 hrs on the day in question, the accused and his child mother were walking along Waterloo Street, when they had a misunderstanding. As a result, Dailey hit him on his lip and he cuffed her in the face.

Based on the evidence provided during a trial, Magistrate Chandan-Edmond informed Dailey that she believed her evidence and the medical report strongly supported it, therefore she found her not guilty.

However, the Magistrate informed Charles that she found a pattern in his behavior, since the evidence indicated that he is has hit the woman several times, thus he was found guilty.
