[www.inewsguyana.com] – One person is dead after a boat transporting lumber and empty gas bottles capsized and sank in the Atlantic Ocean near the Pomeroon river mouth Saturday night (November 15) at around 21:00hrs.
According to reports, the boat was heading to Charity from Barama in the North West District, Region One when disaster struck. The Captain, Victor Waziram of Charity Housing Scheme drowned.
His body was subsequently recovered, while two passengers survived after they were found drifting in a small boat not far from the scene of the accident.
One of the survivors, Irma Burnette said she is thankful to God for saving her life. According to the 67 – year – old woman, the experience was a horrible one that she does not want to remember.
Police are investigating.
