Eighteen – year – old Leandre Perez of Port Kaituma died following an accident at Farm End, Matthews Ridge, North West District today, Wednesday July 3, while seven others are injured.
According to the Police, at about 13: 00h, a motor lorry without registration number plates was ascending a hill at Farm End, Matthews’ Ridge, NWD, when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Eight persons, including miner Leandre Perez, were in the tray of the vehicle which toppled. They all received injuries and were taken to the Matthews’ Ridge Hospital where Leandre Perez was pronounced dead.
Police revealed that three others were treated and sent away, while the other four persons have been air-dashed to Georgetown. The driver of the motor lorry fled the scene and has not been arrested as yet. Investigations are ongoing.
