A pedal cyclist is now in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) along with five other injured persons following an accident with a minibus on Vlissengen road, Georgetown.
The injured pedal cyclist, Desmond Grandsaoult, 42, of Dedication Place, South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown was hit by the minibus at around 08:45hrs on Monday while in the vicinity of KFC.
According to reports received, Grandsaoult and minibus BTT 8476 driven by Jamal John, 30, of Long Dam, Vergenoegen, West Coast Demerara (WCD) were both said to be proceeding south along Vlissengen road.
John was reportedly driving at a fast pace when Grandsaoult attempted to cross the road in front of the minibus but failed and was struck.
As a result of the impact, the man fell onto the road and was then reportedly ran over by the minibus. The minibus in a bid to stop ended up on in a nearby trench on its side.
Grandsaoult was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to GPHC where he is said to be in a critical condition.
The five passengers of the minibus were also injured and were taken to the hospital where they are also being treated.
The minibus driver however reportedly fled the scene of the accident and is being sought by Police.
An investigation is ongoing.
