[www.inewsguyana.com] – Officials at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) today April 17 confirmed that the Official List of Electors (OLE) for the May 11 polls is scheduled to be gazetted between this afternoon and tomorrow April 18.
The OLE will list the name of all the individuals that are registered to cast ballots in the upcoming elections.
According to Chairman of GECOM, Dr Steve Surujbally the list has gone through all of its mandatory stages.
The Official List of electors is preceded by the Revised List of Electors (RLE) which in turn is preceded by the Preliminary List of Electors.
According to GECOM’s website “the main objective of the preparation of the list of electors is to produce an acceptable OLE that contains the names of all eligible persons (i.e. persons who would attain the age of eighteen (18) years by a stipulated date) who can vote in an election. Such list has to withstand public scrutiny in terms of the details of all electors being listed without duplication. An acceptable List of Electors forms the basis for the staging of elections.”
The Law dictates that the OLE is posted across the country 20 days before the holding of General and Regional Elections on May 11.
That 20 day period will expire on Wednesday, April 22.
