[www.inewsguyana.com] – Two policemen attached to the Sparendaam Police Station accused of burning the hands of Junior Thornton were today (July, 08) slapped with several charges, and were placed on bail by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell.
Inspector Dexter Thornton was charged with perverting the course of justice and placed on $100,000 bail while and Constable Earwin Forrester was charged for causing grievous bodily harm and placed on $125,000 bail.
During the initial stage of the investigation, the senior police officer was transferred to the K – 9 Division of the Guyana Police Force after he tried to sweep the torture report under the carpet rather than dealing with it condignly.
Junior Thorngton said the police ranks at the Sparendaam police station soaked his hands with methylated spirits and set them alight. He said this was following a fight between him and another prisoner.
In addition to charges, they need firing, and lost of pension. You’re cops, ordinary people, not God. And even God would never do something so awful.
