[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Table Tennis association will co-operate with the National Sport Commission to stage their annual mash tournament for enthusiasts and players.
The event, which has the main aim of attracting new blood into the sport while dusting the rust off the local athletes, is set for February 14-15 at the National Gymnasium.
Among the categories expected include the boys and girls under-9 to boys and girls under-18, including boys doubles, girls doubles, junior mixed doubles, 21 years and under open, and men and women singles competitions.
Trophies and medals will be awarded to the first, second and joint-third place finishers in all the events.
A technical meeting and tournament draws will take place on February 12 at the National Gymnasium under the watchful eye of the technical and organizing committees.
For the singles event, there will be two stages and groups will be confirmed as necessary. They will compete according to the ‘round robin’ system.
The first two players of each group will be qualified for the final stage and players must be in the final 16 before qualification for the 2014 national championship.
