A 25-year old woman was earlier today remanded to prison when she appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for alleged arson.
Naomi Williams of lot 62 Norton Street, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on October 9, 2016 at Mahdia, she unlawfully and maliciously set fire to the dwelling house of Phillip Narine valued at $1.6M, and also damaged a number of household items amounting to $1.3M belonging to same.
The prosecution objected to bail on the ground of the penalty attached to the crime.
As such, bail was refused for the unrepresented defendant. She is expected to make another court appearance on October 25, 2016.
