[www.inewsguyana.com] –Police on the Essequibo Coast are yet to make any progress into the murder/rape of 73 – year – old Suroojpattie Ramlakhan known as ‘Auntie Carmen’.
The pensioner of Richmond Village was found on the floor of her bedroom early Friday morning (February 20) by her neighbors.
Commander of ‘G’ Division (Essequibo Coast & Islands) K. Adonis today February, 24 told iNews that several persons were initially arrested, but later released due to lack of evidence, however, investigation continues.
According to reports, the pensioner lived alone and was only found after neighbors tried to alert her about a snake in her yard. Neighbors told iNews that the front door of her house was locked but the back door was left ajar.
iNews understands that a few of them decided to venture inside when the woman’s nude body was discovered. An alarm was raised and the police were informed.
Reports indicate that her body bore marks of violence on the neck and vagina, while investigators reportedly found several condoms at the scene.
Meanwhile, police in Berbice have also not made much progress into the murder of 67 – year – old Ramdai Mohabir called ‘Elsie.’
The elderly woman’s nude body was found in her Albion, Corentyne Berbice home on February 09. Commander of ‘B’ Division, Brian Joseph old iNews that a male was held in connection with the woman’s death however, he was released on bail and investigations are ongoing.
The mother of three was a former fish vendor who was last seen by her relatives on February 08 just after 17:30 hours when a relative took food for her.
One of the woman’s daughters had told iNews during a telephone interview that Elsie was a bit mentally unstable but was always alert and did everything for herself except cooking.
Police sources confirmed that there were no marks of violence on the woman’s body although she appeared to have been strangled. [Tracey Khan – Drakes]
