[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Department of Natural Resources and the Environment (DNRE) has dismissed reports that the Georgetown Botanical Gardens has been renamed to the Forbes Burnham Botanical Gardens.
The government in a statement on Thursday, November 26, 2015 was at the time dismissing a report carried in a local newspaper, closely aligned to the Opposition.
“The Department wishes to clarify that the name of the Gardens has not changed. The Georgetown Botanical Gardens is part of Guyana’s National Protected Areas System, and currently falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, Ministry of the Presidency,” the statement noted.
According to the department, the area has been identified for phased rehabilitation, with the first phase having already commenced.

There is no need to renamed the botanical gardens. It is a land mark and should remain as is.

I was at that gathering at the National Library on Tuesday evening, and I can tell you that the suggestion was not that popular, so it may never be adopted.
Naming the airport after Dr Jagan was an honorable thing to do for the Father of our Nation.
Burnham has Linden named after him. Enough even though he is underserving.
Yes let it remain The Botanical Gardens, but also let the airport be renamed the Timehri International Airport.
DO NOT name it after Burnham!
