[www.inewsguyana.com] – Councillors of the People’s Progressive Party sitting on the Region 6 Regional Democratic Council moved a no confidence motion against the Regional Executive Officer, Dr. Verasammy Ramayya.
The motion was brought to the RDC monthly statutory meeting by PPP/C councilor, Haseef Yusuf on Thursday, November 05.
After the motion was presented by Yusuf, who cited several grounds on which the motion was filed, Regional Vice Chairman Dennis DeRoop and councilor, Zaman Ally spoke for the motion while councillors of the APNU+AFC declined to speak against it.
However, members of the coalition voted against the motion but were not successful in preventing it to be passed. The votes were 8-16 with majority from the PPP/C.
The motion was filed on the grounds that Dr Ramayya does not have the minimum pre requisite academic qualifications; his appointment was a political one; has no experience in accounting, management or finance which are necessary for functioning in the post; does not observe protocols and deliberately usurps the functions of the elected officials of the region and breaches the rules by absenting himself without leave or excuse, being frequently late and leaving office before the scheduled departure time without any communication to his superiors.
Dr Ramayya is accused of not signing documents in time to ensure payments are made to those who are providing service to the region. DeRoop also stated that Dr Ramayya handed out contracts without any consultation from the tender board.
He is also accused of taking contract award to one contractor by the tender board and handing it to another contractor. DeRoop declared that Dr Ramayya “is breaking the laws and breaching financial regulations and it is a shame to the people of the region.”
Dr Ramayya, who is the Clerk of council for the Region’s statutory meeting, never attended a meeting since his appointment. The Chairman, David Armogan had noted that there is a lack of communication between the two offices.

In the time we are living in its either you eat or be eaten. I applaud those council members for braving up to double standards because whats the worst that can happen; they can loose their jobs? For all i know they were all already slated to be knocked off anyway…Dr Ramaya needs to understand this is not his herbal clients, this is an entire region to be managed so he has to go. This was his only way to ” fight for the people” but he flopped.

Dr .Ramayya you are good man in wrong company. All appointments during APNU regimen is very much political. Most of them appeared in this country from overseas having no qualification and experience.They want power and they have spent money to win, Please get off the wrong horse and climb the right tree and you need to resign for real. The people around you are defaming you. You are holding a dummy post.It is not only the experience that is making news your association with wrong people and they are using your name and defaming you.
