[www.inewsguyana.com] – If you are among the thousands who are desperately awaiting the NIS to find and credit you with your contributions from your working years, your wait could soon come to an end.
Beginning April 01, 2015, the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) will embark on a data verification project, seeking to match unverified contributions to claimants.
At present the NIS has in its possession over a million unverified contributions and the information of these contributions, such as the local office at which they were found, the employers who paid them, etc will be made public during a three to four month period beginning April 01.
During that time, those who have outstanding contributions, which NIS chronically can never find, will have to provide their names, employer’s information and any other credentials to secure what is rightfully yours.
Chairman of the NIS Board, Dr. Roger Luncheon says the anticipation is that “armed with that information…the contributors would be able to advance their credentials of ownership of those contributions at the appropriate local NIS offices”.
And at the end of the data verification process, NIS will decide who gets what. In other words, once your credentials match the available information in NIS’s possession, you will receive your contributions and subsequent benefits.
In the case of multiple claimants, the adequacy of credentials will determine the rightful recipient of those contributions. [Radha Motielall]
