[www.inewsguyana.com] – Leon Daniels, an inmate of the night shelter was sentenced to one month imprisonment by Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond on an assault charge.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Thursday, January 30.
The particulars of the case state that on January 29 at Arapaima Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Janice Heywood.
The accused told the Court that the virtual complainant kept pushing him out of the yard, and as such he tried to suppress her arms. The complainant, who is a Security Guard, told the court that she warned the accused on several occasions not to enter the yard; however he did not heed her warning.
Bail was refused and the matter was transferred before Magistrate Chandan-Edmond for trial. The trial was immediately conducted, following which he was found guilty.
