A feasibility study and design for the new Demerara River crossing was recently presented to Cabinet, Minister of State, Joseph Harmon told media operatives at a post-Cabinet briefing today at the Ministry of Presidency, according to GINA.
Minister Harmon stated that the feasibility study and design was presented by Minister of Public infrastructure, David Patterson. He explained that Minister Patterson in collaboration with the Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation commissioned the Netherland based company LievenseCSO to undertake the study, and propose a design for the crossing, GINA said.
He said, “Cabinet requested that the Minister (Patterson) identify key aspects of the proposal that require immediate attention, and agreed to discuss the study in detail at the next conference of Ministers.”
The first stage of the $146.3M feasibility study for the new Demerara River Crossing which commenced on January 15, 2017 was completed in early March, and the findings were presented to Minister Patterson.
The preliminary findings for the first phase of the feasibility study for a new Demerara River bridge have indicated that a three-lane design is up for deliberation since it would ease traffic flow along the East Bank Demerara corridor.
