Thirty-three-year-old Anil Samsudeen of Parika Outfall Sea Dam, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), who was on Wednesday evening stabbed to the abdomen after he intervened in a dispute between a mother and her son, has died of his injuries.
The Police have said that on the day in question, at about 23:00h, the suspect, a 28-year-old, went home under the influence of alcohol and told his 61-year-old mother that he wanted some food. She, however, told him to serve himself.
At that point, the intoxicated son became annoyed and threw the pot with the food to the ground, and started to verbally abuse his mother.
Samsudeen, who lives next door, heard the commotion and went over to enquire what was the problem. He admonished the suspect to desist from abusing his mother, but the suspect asked him if he wanted to do something about it.
The victim replied, “If you want do something, come do it”. The suspect then armed himself with a black knife, walked up to the victim, and dealt him one stab to the abdomen before making good his escape.
Samsudeen was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was treated and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further attention.
His condition was regarded as critical.
The matter was reported and an investigation has been launched. The weapon suspected to have been used to commit the act was recovered at the scene.
The suspect, when arrested, told the police: “he does always beat me, and me family don’t want me go station, so me get fed up and bore he.”
