[www.inewsguyana.com] – Contrary to the reports, the School Nationals Championships have been confirmed for November.
Last year the Ministry of Education was mulling the idea of moving the National School championships to the April school term while the Inter Zone championship would have been held as per usual in the Christmas term.
However, the event was held as per usual last year with Minister of Education, Priya Manikchand and Chief Education Officer, Olato Sam noting that the idea of moving the event will still be on the cards for next year in an effort to have sport in each term.
However, iNews Sport was able to confirm through reliable sources that the event has been budgeted for already and is expected to be held as per usual.
While no reason for keeping the meet in November was given, athletes will no longer have to be worried when the event will be held or wonder how they will be able to mix sport and academic in a crucial term such as the Easter term.
In addition, no dates have been confirmed for the event but as is the case every year, the event is expected to be in November with the expected venue said to be Essequibo.
If the event’s venue has been change to Essequibo, it will be the first time since 2010 that School Nationals has seen another part of Guyana with the venue being the National Stadium for the past four years.
