[www.inewsguyana.com] – The National Rifle Team departed these shores early Sunday morning (May 04) heading to Jamaica for the 2014 West Indies Full-bore shooting championships.
According to a release, the team includes captain Mahendra Persaud as well as Vice Captain Dylan Fields, Lennox Braithwaite, Ransford Goodluck, Ryan Sampson, Leo Romalho, ACP retired Paul Slowe, Lt. Col. Retired Terrance Stuart, Inspector Dane Blair, Peter Persaud and Sherwin Felicien.
The Guyana team will also feature two overseas based shooters in John Fraser and Sigmund Douglas who will link with up with the locals in Jamaica. The championships will fire off on Monday with three days of individual competition at the Twickenham Park ranges in Kingston.
Guyanese, Lennox Braithwaite is the reigning West Indies full bore shooting champion after he won the grand aggregate in ‘X’ Class last year at Paragon ranges in Barbados.
Meanwhile, team matches will commence on Friday with the long range title shoot (900 and 1000 yards) while Saturday the gunners will be back in action at 300, 500 and 600 yards (shot) ranges.
Captain Mahendra Persaud said the national shooters are both mentally and physically prepared for a grueling week of competition.
The championships will attract teams from Antigua/Barbuda, Barbados, Bermuda, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago hosts Jamaica and a visiting Canadian team.
Guyana is long range champions while they will be looking to reclaim the short range title lost to Jamaica in Barbados last year.
