Mystery spinner Sunil Narine who has been playing domestic cricket for Queen’s Park will represent the West Indies against Pakistan in the upcoming four-match T20 series in the West Indies, starting later this month.
Pakistan will be four T20s, three ODIs and three Test matches in the Caribbean and the first of the T20s take place on March 26 at Kensington Oval in Barbados. The next three matches will be played at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain.
Narine will be joined by fellow Trinidadians Keiron Pollard, Lendl Simmons, Samuel Badree and Evin Lewis. The West Indies team will be led by Barbadian all rounder Carlos Brathwaite, who has failed to impress since his heroic four sixes off four balls against England in the World T20 finals in India last year. Trinbago Knight Riders all rounder Dwayne Bravo will miss the series due to his leg injury that he picked up in the Big Bash in Australia.
The rest of the team will be made up of players who played against Pakistan in the last international T20 outing for the West Indies in the United Arab Emirates last November.
Simmons who has been out of action for quite a while due to injuries is back and is expected to play a key role in helping the West Indies exact revenge against the Pakistanis, who defeated them 3-0 in the UAE.
Pollard has been plying his trade in Australia and will be looking to get back to his best for this series. Initially the West Indies were to play two matches against the Pakistanis but the schedule was changed to include two further matches. This came about because of the fact that the two previously advertised game for Fort Lauderdale have been called off due to visa issues faced by the Pakistani players.
The West Indies were invited to come to Pakistan for two matches but they refused due to security concerns. Then the Fort Lauderdale games was called off, so both cricket boards decided to put on the extra games in the West Indies.
