damaged ferry will be out of service until further notice
Earlier this evening (Tuesday July 25, 2016), Motor Vessel Sabanto collided with the Supenaam Stelling, causing extensive damage to the ferry. I News understands that there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of this accident.
However, due to the damage caused, the MV Sabanto will be out of service until further notice. According to a statement from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, the MV Malali and MV Makouria will instead provide service for the Parika to Supenaam route, and vice versa. This service will occur as per normal, commencing at 5:00am.
INews understands that a team from the Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) has been deployed to assess the extent of the damages.
The Ministry of Public Infrastructure and the Management of T&HD apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Details on the incident will be provided as they become available.
The captain and crew will get a slap on the wrist if at all. The pple from Essequibo coast will continue to suffer, having to endure long hours at the wharf and on these turtle paced boats. Cheers to THD. Efficiency is our motto.
Just a little twist to the suffering. The bathroom facilities on the new chinese boats needs much to be desired. Apparently no one is assigned to sanitation of these boats and facilities. I recently travelled on the Sabanto( just off dock) and the face sink was inoperable and the stench melts the hairs in your nostrils . The sanitary condition is embarassing.
