As police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder of Amit Singh, information has come to the fore that the suspect and victim were very close friends.
According to a source close to the investigation, the victim was at his Campbellville, Georgetown home when he was picked up by his friend, Yogeendra Sukhdeo of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Sukhdeo reportedly arrived in a black motorcar with fake licenced plates.
Singh reportedly joined the car driven by his friend of several years to head to the location at Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, to purchase the gold.
Sources indicate that Singh went on the journey as he trusted his friend, who had made all the arrangements for the ‘transaction’.
Whilst at the house, three other persons joined.
Singh was then badly beaten until he became motionless. The perpetrators then wrapped the man’s body in a sheet and fled the house, taking along the $7.7 million in cash which the victim had in his possession.
After some time passed and the victim did not return home, family members contacted the police.
Based on information received, the friend was contacted and he reportedly confessed to the crime and led detectives to the house where the victim’s body remained.
The suspect then led detectives to his home where the money was recovered.
