Murder update: $7.7M in cash found at suspect’s house

Yogeendra Sukhdeo, the suspect in custody for the murder of Amit Singh, this morning took detectives to his home at Lot 1896 20th Avenue Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD) where a search was carried out in his room and the sum of $7,791,000, all consisting of $5,000 bills, were found.

Singh was murdered at around 14:15h on Tuesday at Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown.

Police said preliminary information revealed that the victim was lured by four suspects to a house at Middle Road, La Penitence under the pretext that they had gold for sale.

Whilst at the house, the four suspects brutally murdered the victim, after which, they wrapped his body in a sheet. The suspects then fled the scene, taking with them the cash that the victim had taken to purchase the gold.

The perpetrators then locked the building, with the victim’s body inside.

Based on intelligence received, ranks from the Criminal Investigations Department arrested Sukhdeo.
