The Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Prisons Service are are working in collaboration to recapture an inmate who escaped from the Lusignan Prison this morning.
He has been identified as Ishaka John, 25, of 109 ‘A’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown. He was committed for murder.
Prison and police officials said they observed the prisoner on the fence as he was making his escape. Several shots were fired in an effort to apprehend him, but he continued to run away.
It is unclear if the prisoner was injured. A search is currently being conducted around the area and its surroundings.
An investigation has also been launched into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
